Are There Any Self-Sacrificing Animals in Nature?

Cats and elephants. They are very protective. I have some cats outside and this dog was after one of the cats and her kittens, so she ran off, leaving the kittens behind so the dogs would follow her. Luckily, she came back the next day. Also Elephants are extremely protevtive of their young. I read that in a book about elephants.
