Pregnant and sick of older generation's input...?

Every time I am over my parent's house I am subject to the phrase, "Well I don't know how you survived." If I refuse anything or go without anything (lunchmeat, soda, coffee), my mother is quick to point out that she consumed all of this (among other things) and I turned out fine. When I told her I did not want to get a bumper for the crib because the baby could sufficate in it, she looked almost insulted replying defensively, "Parents in my day must have been stupid back then because every crib had a bumper." Although this is our first baby, I'm almost thirty years old and my husband and I have a combined 15 years teaching experience. I feel like the comments are getting to be too much, but I don't want to cause a huge fight or hurt my mom's feelings. Any suggestions?
