APR of 26.99% on new paypal card?

I am a freshman student and i am going to need some supplies for school soon. I applied for a paypal credit card and got accepted ( I have no credit line so i was surprised ) I have a $500 spending limit but the apr is 26.99%. I know this is extremely high but i really need some school supplies. What should i do? Should i only use it for very small purchases? or should i use it for books and such? I kind of need the supplies for school but i don't want to get in a huge debt.
